2025 marked an important year in my transition from a 'student' to an engineer. I got to grow into my role with Akula Tech, where I developed critical software for satellite energy management. Our biggest milestone was the launch of Nexus-01 in August, which saw Australia's most powerful AI-powered satellite go into space! To put it bluntly, this has been the coolest thing I've been a part of so far (minus getting up at 4am to watch the live feed from Vandenberg Air Force Base). I'm excited to top this feat with more accomplishments as I navigate my career
the team up early in the office to watch the launch. Apart from it being 5am, we were all buzzing with energy - and yes that news excerpt went straight to my mum and dad

i can never say no to a team photo. If you look closely, Max (centre) is holding an iPad with members on a Zoom call, who weren't able to make it into the office that day
You'd be well within your rights to ask what the hell a space program is and why Melbourne has one. MSP is a student-led, student-run, not-for-profit that specialises in training and industry-readiness for undergraduate, masters, and PhD students. Our projects span a wide range, from animatronics to humanoids to satellite engineering.Â
Contrary to popular belief, launching a satellite into space is a feasible ambition for a group of talented students. Our predecessors set the bar quite high with the launch of ACRUX-1 in 2019, and our goal is to kick things up a notch. We're doing it bigger and better by designing, testing and launching ACRUX-2, a fully equipped satellite about as big as a loaf of bread, as well as a dedicated ground station. Our mission is to be the first Australian student team to take a photo from space during an overhead pass, which will be accomplished with a proprietary camera system.
The journey has certainly been challenging but rewarding. My highlight has been getting to partner with local and international heavyweights, from EnduroSat to CSIRO! I've had the privilege of rubbing shoulders with some of the smartest people at these organisation, and I am nothing but inspired by their work!

forever grateful for my tenures at these student clubs. I've worked with the brightest engineers, scientists, designers, business men & women (the list really does go on), who will go on to be world-renowned. Mark my words
