I hold a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Master of Engineering (MEng) in Mechanical Engineering, where my coursework focused on estimation and control for deterministic systems and batteries. Professionally I'm passionate about using my software skills to tackle some of the hardest problems in the world, including grid integration, smart energy systems and energy storage optimisation. We have one Earth, and my purpose is to leave it a little better than I found it.
Personally, I'm a hiking, snowboarding, camping & general outdoors enthusiast⛰️🚴🏽♂️🏕️
I am interested in the applications of applied mathematics in decision making under uncertainty. My specific focus lies in stochastic optimisation, i.e., formulating and solving problems that require a constrained probabilistic approach. Traditionally, robust control has proven to be a useful tool for policy design in deterministic systems such as process control, however it has various pitfalls including excessive conservatism and sensitivity to uncertainty. In order to solve this, a stochastic optimal approach is needed. Many problems in science and engineering benefit from such a treatment, for example national energy grids with stochastic demand and supply, autonomous systems operating in uncertain environments, and financial decision-making under market volatility.
